ADK Buell Rally: Part Deux
Due to an overwhelmingly positive response to last year's event, Dave and I will be organizing a shindig for this spring as well! It seemed that everyone had a excellent time and was happy with the overall format last year, so we're not going to be changing hardly anything. The only real notable change is that we'll be sure to post up where the dinner meet up will be for both Friday and Saturday night - we felt bad that some people showed up Saturday evening last year and were unable to find anyone because we hadn't posted up the plans anywhere.
Also, a few people had discussed possibly extending the event into the week leading up (something like a Wed-Sun thing), and spending the first couple days in Northern VT before heading down to the Lake George region for Friday evening. Dave nor I will be involved in any of the planning for that as it's unlikely that either of us will be able to attend, but I will post any info on that here and on the BadWeB thread so that anyone who wishes to attend that portion can easily find that info.
Feel free to read my little write up on the 2012 event. Also, check out some additional photos of the 2012 event here, here and here.

Lodging Options
Lake George is FULL of hotels, motels, inns, bed and breakfasts and campgrounds, so be sure to check around. Whether you want the expected at a chain or the character of a mom and pop joint, you'll find it here. Anything listed as being "in" Lake George Village will be walking distance to the Ft. William Henry and other area attractions including dinner locations, so no worries about getting back to your room after a few cold ones.
Because this is before Memorial Day and there are so many options, be sure to do some of your own research on where to stay (including neighboring lakes and town, if you wish) for the best prices.
Most people will be staying at the Fort William Henry. This is easiest as it's where we will be meeting each morning and is walkable to anywhere in town we will go for dinner or breakfast. It is a little more expensive, however.
Use promo code "FACE" if booking online to get 20% off our stay.
Some other options are:
Quality Inn Lake George (nicer place)
Battleground Campground (right near Ft. William Henry)
Tiki Resort (mid-priced, something a little different)
Lake View Inn (this is a great budget option)
Montreal Motel (another budget option, but on the other side of town - still walkable)

Ride Route Ideas
These are just some suggestions for routes and destinations - feel free to make your own or email me for more ideas. Mileages given are accurate, times are based on Google Maps, so keep in mind that your riding pace as well as gas, food and rest stops will affect the travel time. We will try to have route sheets as well for people who like to kick it old skool.
NOTE: Route sheets are attached for each ride below, but programming these routes into your GPS electing to just follow someone else who knows where they're going is advisable is possible.

Big Lakes LoopThis is a big ride with some good sections of sweepers and twisties, but is more about enjoying the scenery and beauty of the region. The route will ride by 10 Adirondack lakes including Lake George, Lake Champlain, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Long Lake, Rich Lake and a bunch of other smaller lakes and ponds. Before lunch, the route will take you up to the summit of Whiteface Mountain for spectacular views of the Lake Placid and the Adirondack High Peaks.

Vermont High GapsThis one is inspired by one of my favorite rides from Americade, highlighted by Rt 17 in Vermont which has some narly twisties. WARNING: Some of these roads may not be in very good shape.
241 miles, 6 hours no route sheet provided |
Sacandaga & Rt. 10 LoopSacandaga has some of the best twisties in the area and Route 10 offers some fantastic fast sweepers. Together they make an excellent route. Stop for lunch in Speculator and be sure to check out some of the fantastic scenic pull-offs along the shores of the Great Sacandaga Lake.
180 Miles, 4 1/2 hours ![]()

Sacandaga Quick RipHere's a fantastic choice if you have a little time to kill and want to hit some the best twisties in the area.
65 miles, 2 1/2 hours ![]()
|
Schroon Lake Quick RipHere's another good quick route if you have some time to kill or want to pair it with the Sacandaga Quick Rip for a morning and afternoon ride. Great roads and a stop at De Cesare's Pizza for lunch. Or, you can build in stops at Veteran's Memorial Beach in Bolton Landing to make it an all-day affair.
142 miles, 3 hours ![]()
|
Schroon Lake Extended RipThis follows the same route as the Schroon Lake Quick Rip, but adds a section on the north end that hits Tracy Rd and North Hudson Rd, two local legends. This route could also easily be modified to skip the portions west of I-87 to make it a little shorter if so desired.
177 miles, 4 1/4 hours ![]()

Off-the-Bike Activities
There are plenty of things to keep busy in and around the Lake George region. Here are some ideas (the links I've provided are just ideas, be sure to do your own research or email me for other suggestions):
- Parasailing, Jet Ski and Boat rentals in Lake George Village
- Tours of the Fort William Henry and Fort Ticonderoga
- Plenty of shopping on Canada Street (main drag in Lake George Village) and in Bolton Landing (15 minutes north of LGV)
- Swimming at Million Dollar Beach or Bolton Landing (the latter being the better of the two)
- The Olympic Village in Lake Placid (a bit of a drive)
- Six Flags Great Escape theme park and water slide park are just a few minutes away
- Drive up Prospect Mountain for fantastic views of Lake George
- Plenty of hiking - my favorite in the area is Sleeping Beauty Mountain. Easy to moderate hike, great views, about a half-day hike.
